Process-Dependent Solute Transport in Porous Media

چکیده
Abstract Solute transport under single-phase flow conditions in porous micromodels was studied using high-resolution optical imaging. Experiments examined loading (injection of ink-water solution into a clear water-filled micromodel) and unloading water an filled micromodel). Statistically homogeneous fine-coarse patterns were used. It is shown that the time scale during larger than loading, even micromodel with structure, so values dispersion coefficient obtained for unloading. The difference between cases decreased increase rate. This implies diffusion key factor controlling degree scales, considered here. Moreover, patterned heterogeneity micromodel, containing distinct sections fine coarse media, increased scales processes. These results raise question whether this discrepancy same hydrodynamic observable at length scales.

Solute Transport in Heterogeneous Porous Media
Solute mass transport in porous media is strongly correlated with pore fluid flow. The analysis of solute transport is an effective means for studying medium heterogeneities. In this study, we discuss the effects of heterogeneity on the tracer transport. Assuming steady fluid flow, we have simulated tracer transport in various permeability heterogeneities. The results show that the tracer distr...

We study solute transport in porous media with periodic microstructures consisting of interconnected thin channels. We discuss a local physical mechanism that occurs at the intersections of channels and promotes mixing of the solute with the solvent (i.e., the host liquid). We identify the parameter regime, where this mechanism is the dominant cause of dispersion, and obtain the effective or ma...
متن کاملEffective Macrodiffusion in Solute Transport through Heterogeneous Porous Media
Homogenization method is used to analyse the equivalent behavior of transient flow of a passive solute through highly heterogeneous porous media. The flow is governed by a coupled system which includes an elliptic equation and a linear convection-diffusion concentration equation with a diffusion term small with respect to the convection, i.e. a high Peclet number is considered. Asymptotic expan...

متن کاملSolute transport across a contact interface in deformable porous media.
A finite element formulation of neutral solute transport across a contact interface between deformable porous media is implemented and validated against analytical solutions. By reducing the integral statements of external virtual work on the two contacting surfaces into a single contact integral, the algorithm automatically enforces continuity of solute molar flux across the contact interface,...
